All these new words and terminology in the news every day. Here’s a mini cheat sheet.

In this 'new normal' there is unfamiliar terminology that we must all get out heads around. We know this can be daunting for you and your colleagues.

It is important to ensure you are using and recommending the correct product to fit the needs of your staff. That's why we have created our mini glossary of terms, to help provide some understanding on the new descriptions and product titles. Some of this is new to us too, so we'll share our knowledge with you to ensure you and your staff, customers and site visitors have confidence using personal protection products.

• Antibacterial
  Antibacterial products destroy bacteria and suppress growth and ability to reproduce.

• Antimicrobial
  An antimicrobial is an agent that kills microorganisms or stops their growth.

• Antiviral
  Kills and suppresses the ability to replicate and inhibits its capability to multiply and reproduce.

• Carbon Filter
  Method of filtering that uses a bed of activated carbon to remove impurities.

• Filtration Rate
  Bacterial filtration rate refers to ability of the fabric to resist bacterial penetration.

• Non-sterile
  Meaning that they are not free from germs or microorganisms.

• Ply
  A thickness or layer of a folded or laminated material.

• Respirator
  Worn over the mouth and nose to prevent the inhalation of dust or other substances.
